A rare category five hurricane devastated Mexico’s Pacific coast on 25 October. Hurricane Otis made landfall close to the resort city of Acapulco, Guerrero state, bringing winds of 270km/h and extremely heavy rainfall across much of central and south-west Mexico. In the aftermath, the government led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador highlighted the resources it had available to respond to such incidents.
