In the global response to the 7 October attacks on Israel by the Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel’s subsequent military offensive in Gaza, few countries outside the Arab world have been as outspoken as Colombia and Bolivia. Both have vehemently condemned Israel, arguing that its military strategy has killed an inexcusable number of civilians. Bolivia cut diplomatic ties with Israel over the issue, while Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro has launched a barrage of criticism, including comparing the Israeli authorities to Nazis.
