MEXICO: Mexico and China make tentative moves on fentanyl

The governments of Mexico and China have recently come together to combat fentanyl. Both countries have significant roles in the illicit fentanyl trade, with China as the main supplier of precursor chemicals and Mexico as a key transporter and producer of fentanyl. The US, which bears the brunt of fentanyl-related deaths as the main consumer of the drug, has pushed for both countries to do more to tackle production and trafficking of fentanyl. However, both Mexico and China have been reluctant to accept their roles in the fentanyl supply chain, meaning recent collaboration on issue, although preliminary and vague, is notable.
