REGION: Belize cuts Israel ties as Caricom courts Saudi Arabia
Belize has caused a stir by breaking off relations with Israel over its response to the 7 October attacks by the Palestinian militant group Hamas. The Caribbean Community (Caricom) has also issued a strongly worded statement urging Israel to exercise restraint in its military offensive in the Gaza Strip and calling on it to respect international humanitarian law. Coincidentally, the 12 October Caricom statement came just four days before an inaugural Caricom-Saudi Arabia summit in Riyadh.
