In brief: Chile’s monthly inflation edges up

*Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released new figures which show that in November 2023, the consumer price index (IPC) registered a monthly increase of 0.7%, with yearly inflation standing at 4.8%. This is compared to a monthly increase of 0.4% in October when the annual inflation rate stood at 5%. Ten out of the 12 categories making up the IPC positively contributed to the monthly variation, while one had a negative impact, and another showed no variation. In monthly terms, the categories with the most significant increases were food & non-alcoholic drinks (1%), transport (1.3%), recreation & culture (1.4%), and home maintenance & equipment (1.2%). Alcohol & tobacco recorded a monthly decrease in price of 0.6%, while education showed no variation.
