COLOMBIA: Crunch time as Grabe takes over ELN peace talks

President Gustavo Petro has appointed a new chief negotiator in peace talks with the Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN) guerrilla group: Vera Grabe, an anthropologist and former M-19 guerrilla. Grabe replaces Otty Patiño, a former M-19 guerrilla like her and Petro, who was appointed as peace commissioner last week. Grabe takes over at what both the government and the ELN have called a critical juncture in peace talks, with the practice of kidnapping a major bone of contention as the fifth round of talks gets underway in Mexico.
