In brief: Dominican Republic hails rise in tourism

*The Dominican Republic’s tourism minister, David Collado, has announced that the country received 10.3m visitors last year, which he described as the “best year for tourism in the country’s history”. He said that this reflected growth of 36% compared with 2019, the year prior to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Collado said that the main source countries of tourists last year were the US which accounted for 43% of tourists followed by Canada (16%), Colombia (7%), Spain (5%), and Puerto Rico (4%).
