On 2 January Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa appointed the national planning secretary, Sariha Moya, as vice president due to the “temporary absence” of Verónica Abad, who fell out with Noboa while still on the campaign trail and whom he has attempted to sideline by dispatching her to the Middle East for most of his presidency.
