Simmonds's deputy Morris resigns.
The leader of the opposition St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), Denzil Douglas, called for the resignation of Prime Minister Kennedy Simmonds following the announcement that Sydney Morris, who resigned as Deputy Prime Minister in mid-November, had been appointed adviser to the ministry of education, youth and community affairs, for which he had been responsible. Morris, who was also the minister of communications, works and public utilities, announced his resignation from the cabinet six days after two of his sons were arrested on gun, ammunition and cocaine-possession charges.
Douglas said Simmonds had made a 'callous and insensitive decision' in appointing Morris to a post that was tantamount to making him junior education minister.Morris has been replaced as Deputy Prime Minister by Hugh Heyliger, who has taken responsibility for the education, youth and community affairs portfolios. Simmonds himself has taken over communications, works and public utilities.
