Elections
Premier Vance Amory's Concerned Citizens' Movement retained its three seats in the Island assembly in elections on 24 February.
The opposition Nevis Reformation Party won two, and leader Joseph Parry said he would not contest any more elections.Amory said the 6,300 voters had given him a mandate to lead Nevis to independence from St. Kitts.
Barbuda's representative in the Antigua and Barbuda legislature, Hilbourne Frank, promptly urged Amory to convene a meeting of dependent Caribbean territories (Tobago, Turks & Caicos, Cayman islands, Anguilla, Tortola, Montserrat, Carriacou, Union Island, the Grenadines and the French islands) to discuss a special group status within Caricom.
