For the record: order of seniority in the Peruvian army

The table below is an updated version of the information published in Latin Letter on 13 June 1975. A great deal has happened to change the picture presented then, and the expectations that Generals Leonidas Rodriguez Figueroa and Enrique Gallegos Venero would succeed to the army command in due course have been dashed by the growing ascendancy of right-wing officers which began with the overthrow of President Juan Velasco Alvarado in August last year. Apart from the two senior officers named above, the following generals of division retired ahead of schedule in the last 18 months: Jorge Fernandez Maldonado, Luis La Vera Velarde, Jose Graham Hurtado, Javier Tantalean Vanini and Guillermo Marco del Pont. Brigadier Generals Enrique Ibanez Burga, Carlos Bobbio Centurion and Luis Uzategui Arce went the same way, and Brigadier Generals Artemio Garcia Vargas and Raul Meneses Arata died while on active service.
