LABOUR: PT personalities
The PT has exerted a strong attraction for Left-wing intellectuals, most of them ex-members of the tiny Partido Socialista of the 1950s, but also former trotskyists, Christlans and communists. The following is an incomplete list of the personalities of the PT: Marlo Padrosa, founding member, who died in November of last year, a prominent arts critic and socialist theoretician; Paulo Freire, the creator of the famous iiteracy method; Plinio de Arruda Sampaio, a leading lay Christian; Helio Blcudo, the former attorney who fought against the death squads; Apolonio de carvalho, who fought in he panish Civil War, and founded the Partido Comunista 8rasileiro Revolucionario in the 1960s; Francisco Waffort, a leading social scientist and PT theoretician; economists Paulo Singer and Chico de Olivera; Antonio Candido, literary critic and university professor; Lysaneas Maciel, the cassado federal deputy, who may become PT"s candidate for governor of Rio; historian Sergio Buarque da Holanda; Perseu bramo, the former editor of the Folha de S. Paulo; the poet Ferreira Gular; and writer Marico de Souzs.
