Lara killer arrested

Police re-arrested Byron de Jesus Velasquez, one of the killers in 1984 of justice minister Rodrigo Lara Bonilla, in a routine operation in Bogota on 30 October.


Velasquez was given conditional freedom in April after serving nine years of a 21-year prison sentence. But the decision was overturned in the high court. When arrested, Velasquez was riding the same motorcycle from which Lara Bonilla was shot dead 11 years ago, police said.
