NICARAGUA/BRAVO
The strange case of 'Comandante Bravo' continues to be a live issue, and is contributing to the current tension between Nicaragua and Honduras.
Bravo (a leading figure in Somoza's National Guard, real name Pablo Emilio Salazar Paiz) was reported to have been found murdered in Honduras last month. He was known to have been carrying money and supplies from Guatemala to the 3,000 exiled Guardsmen in Honduras. The Sandinistas have denied scarcely veiled accusations by the Honduran government that Bravo was killed by a Sandinista hit-squad. Latest reports from Tegucigalpa say the body was never correctly identified, and that Bravo may still be alive in Honduras, organising a somocista counter-attack on Managua.
