PERU: Police chief fired after Boluarte attack

The government summarily dismissed the commander of the national police force (PNP), General Jorge Angulo, on 22 January for “very serious negligence”. Angulo was blamed for an increase in public insecurity and criminal gangs in Peru on his watch. He was given his marching orders after an attack on President Dina Boluarte by two women during her visit to the south-eastern region of Ayacucho two days earlier.
