BOLIVIA: Morales supporters block roads as tensions escalate

Supporters of former president Evo Morales (2006-2019) began blocking key highways around Bolivia on 22 January as they intensified their demands for overdue judicial elections to be convened immediately. At stake is Morales’ candidacy in the 2025 presidential elections, with his backers pushing for the election of a new constitutional court which might overturn a December ruling which declared that presidents can serve a maximum of two terms [WR-24-02].
