MEXICO: US arms trafficking lawsuit revived

The government’s efforts to hold the US arms industry legally responsible for gun violence in Mexico scored a victory on 22 January. A US appeals court revived an ambitious lawsuit filed by Mexico’s government in August 2021 against seven major US gun manufacturers and one wholesaler, which had been dismissed in September 2022. The Mexican government has widely celebrated the court’s decision, but the task ahead remains mammoth.
