MEXICO: Guerrero’s insecurity crisis continues

Mexico’s southwestern state of Guerrero continues to face growing violence from organised criminal groups. Public transport ground to a halt in state capital Chilpancingo and other cities at the start of February in response to attacks on drivers, while images of children being armed in a rural community prompted widespread concerns at the end of January. This has all sparked calls from the political opposition for the state government, governed by the federally ruling Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena), to do more to contain organised crime in the state.
