BRAZIL: Limited gains for Bolsonaro’s São Paulo rally
Thousands of right-wing demonstrators rallied on 25 February in the city of São Paulo to show support for former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023), who is under investigation for alleged involvement in a coup conspiracy. Bolsonaro got the photo shoot he wanted, appearing alongside prominent right-wing allies such as São Paulo state governor Tarcísio de Freitas. But Bolsonaro’s words at the rally may come back to haunt him, as authorities monitored the demonstration for any expression of insurrectionist intent or comments that could prove relevant to the investigations against the former president.
