MEXICO: Progress in lawsuits against US arms industry

Mexico’s government is making headway in its mission to hold the US arms industry legally responsible for gun violence over the border. On 22 February a court in the US state of Arizona held a preliminary hearing for a case that the Mexican government has brought against five arms retailers in the state. This came a month after a US appeals court revived a separate case the Mexican government has filed against arms manufacturers in Massachusetts. Despite this progress, many challenges lie ahead.
