COLOMBIA: Tempers flare with health reform bill on life support

Once again, Colombians are witnessing an ill-tempered institutional standoff between President Gustavo Petro and congress, this time triggered by the fading chances of the government’s health reform bill making it through the senate. In response to this latest setback, Petro drew the fury of congress by declaring that Colombia is in need of a constituent assembly with the power to modify the country’s 1991 constitution.
