MEXICO: Candidates talk green energy

On 18 March Mexico’s government celebrated the 86th anniversary of the country’s oil expropriation during the government of Lázaro Cárdenas (1934-1940). President Andrés Manuel López Obrador delivered a speech in which he stressed the enduring importance of fossil fuels and celebrated the performance of the indebted state oil company Pemex. Meanwhile, the two main candidates in June’s presidential elections used the day to present their energy proposals which both placed a renewed emphasis on the green energy transition.
