Security as focus of Mexico’s presidential campaigns

The official campaigning period for Mexico’s 2 June presidential elections began on 1 March. Since then, the three candidates – Claudia Sheinbaum of the ruling Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena), Xóchitl Gálvez of the main Fuerza y Corazón por México opposition coalition, and Jorge Álvarez Máynez of the leftist opposition Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) – have toured across the country delivering their proposals. One topic has dominated campaign events so far: security.
