MEXICO: Lawlessness hits the highways

The lack of security for those working on Mexico’s roads has been highlighted in recent months, with several drivers’ unions calling strikes to demand better protection measures. On 10 March, the Sindicato Nacional de Operadores del Servicio Público Federal (SNSPF), a union representing drivers of public service vehicles, called off a blockade of a major highway after reaching an agreement with local authorities and the national guard (GN). However, the dangers facing drivers persist.
