JAMAICA: World Bank reports on economic prospects

At the beginning of January, the World Bank issued a 220-page report on Jamaica's economic prospects, Jamaica: the road to sustained growth. The report highlights as the central economic issue for Jamaica a government debt level of 150% of GDP in 2002/03, which is one of the highest ratios in the world. It argues that achieving sustained growth will require dealing with the debt burden 'on a very urgent basis'.
