PANAMA: Torrijos gets off to a sticky start

Martin Torrijos, the front-runner for the presidential elections on 2 May, saw his campaign get off to a sticky start. On 8 January, his campaign manager and cousin, Hugo, resigned after becoming embroiled in allegations of corruption. Torrijos's candidacy, backed by his father's political machine, the Partido Revolucionario Democrático (PRD), is also being discoloured by the way a former president, Ernesto Pérez Balladares, also from the PRD, is trying to fend off allegations of corruption.
