EL SALVADOR: Troops head to Iraq amid threats from extremists

President Tony Saca sent a 380-strong contingent of troops to Iraq on 17 August. His decision came in spite of fierce criticism from the left-wing opposition Frente Farabundo Martí­ para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN) and in the face of threats of terrorist attacks from an unknown group claiming to be linked to al-Qaida.
