HONDURAS: Alvarado quits

Economy and finance minister Arturo Alvarado tendered his resignation on 6 August. He will be replaced by his deputy, William Chong Wong, on 31 August. Alvarado gave 'personal reasons' for his departure but it is no secret that he had a tense relationship with members of the ruling Partido Nacional, who constantly badgered him (to no avail) to release more budgetary funds for populist spending splurges.
