*University workers in Argentina have gone on strike in response to President Javier Milei’s veto of a bill to boost university financing. The strike action, which was called by the Federación Nacional de Docentes Universitarios de Argentina (Conadu), which represents university lecturers and other teaching staff, began yesterday (21 October) and is continuing today. Milei’s decision to veto the bill came as his government was already clashing with Argentina’s public universities over funding. The legislation proposed a boost for university funding which would have cost 0.14% of GDP, according to calculations by the congressional budget office (OPC). Students have protested against the move by occupying faculty buildings and taking classes out in the street.
