In brief: Brazil’s industrial production down in monthly terms

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its figures for the country’s industrial production in October, which showed a monthly drop in production of 0.2% but an increase of 5.8% compared to October last year. Accumulated annual production in the 12 months until October 2024 was up 3.0% compared to the previous 12-month period. The latest monthly slump comes after two consecutive months of monthly rises in production. Of the 25 product categories measured, 19 saw monthly rises in October, with the greatest increase registered in clothing and accessories (+14.1%). The greatest monthly decrease was registered in coke, petroleum products, and biofuels (-2.0%), which the Ibge attributes to lower production in alcohol products and gasoline.
