In brief: Brazil’s coffee exports register annual record

*Brazil’s national council of coffee exporters (Cecafé) has released the export figures for December and the total figures for 2024, putting monthly exports at 3.8m sacks of coffee (one sack = 60kg) and annual exports at a record 50.4m sacks. The result for December is down 8.1% compared to the same month in 2023, but the total annual figure was up 28.5%. Total exports in 2024 were 12.8% higher than the previous annual record set in 2020. In a press release, Cecafé highlighted the significant yearly rise in exports for the canephora coffee varieties (robusta and conilon), with annual exports totalling 9.36m sacks, up 97.9% from 2023. In terms of export destinations, the US remained the top importer of Brazilian coffee last year with 8.13m sacks, up 34% from the previous year. The second and third-place export destinations, Germany and Belgium, registered even larger annual rises. A total of 7.59m sacks were shipped to Germany last year (+51.3%), while exports to Belgium totalled 4.35m sacks (+96.4%).
