PANAMA: Setback for US trade deal

Panama's efforts to ensure that it is not the only country in Central America without a free-trade agreement with the US* were frustrated in January. The agriculture minister, Laurentino Cortizo, resigned from his post over his concerns that Panama would be compelled to compromise its food health standards in order to seal the deal with the US.
