In brief: Slight monthly slump for Brazil’s services sector

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its latest figures for the country’s services sector in January, which showed a monthly decrease of 0.2% in the volume of services provided. Compared to January 2024, the monthly services volume increased by 1.6%, and the accumulated services volume in the 12 months until January 2025 was up 2.9% compared to the preceding 12-month period. Of the five categories of services measured by the Ibge, three registered decreases from December to January. The category that saw the greatest monthly drop in volume was transport and postal services (-1.8%), with a significant drop of 13.3% registered in air travel.
