In brief: Carmaker VW announces new investment in Argentina

*German car giant Volkswagen has announced a US$580m investment in Argentina. According to a Volkswagen press statement, the brand is “paving the way for the next generation of mid-size pick-up truck as a successor to the Amarok [pick-up truck]”. It states that the new model, which will be produced at the Pacheco plant (located in Buenos Aires province) from 2027, is being developed “specifically for the South American market”. Noting that the Pacheco plant has already produced more than 770,000 examples of the Amarok, the press release cites Alexander Seitz, CEO of Volkswagen Latin America, as saying “Argentina is a key component of our South American strategy. This investment underlines our confidence in the country’s industrial capabilities.”
