The Articulação dos Povos Indígenas do Brasil (Apib), the national umbrella organisation for indigenous movements, published an open letter on 11 April which expressed concern over land rights. The letter included demands expressed by indigenous activists during Apib’s annual demonstrations in Brasília, known as the ‘Acampamento Terra Livre’ (ATL). Running from 7-11 April, the series of marches in the capital took aim at the supreme court (STF), which has over the past year been reviewing laws and legal processes regarding indigenous land demarcations but has placed an emphasis on seeking ‘conciliation’ with all sectors, rather than prioritising the demands of Apib and other indigenous groups.End of preview - This article contains approximately 439 words.
