Vale’s iron production decreases. The Brazilian mining company Vale released its first quarter production figure on 15 April, showing that a total of 67.7m tonnes (t) of iron ore and 7.2m t of iron pellets were produced. This marks a decrease from the 85.3m t of iron ore and 9.2m t of pellets produced in the final quarter of 2024 and from the 70.8m t of iron ore and 8.5m t of iron pellets in the first quarter of 2024. In its quarterly production report, the mining giant highlighted that its iron mining complexes in the north of the country, currently Vale’s main region for iron ore in Brazil, were impacted by higher rainfall and licencing restrictions, among other factors contributing to the slump in production.
