MEXICO: Trouble over tomatoes

Mexico’s government has spoken out after the US Department of Commerce announced it was withdrawing from a 2019 agreement governing imports of fresh tomatoes from Mexico. As a result, anti-dumping duties of 20.91% are set to be imposed on most US imports of tomatoes from Mexico from 14 July. However, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum and her agriculture minister, Julio Berdegué, are confident that the government can negotiate a new agreement with the US and prevent the duties from coming into force.
