MEXICO: Concerns rise over judicial candidates

The head of Mexico’s senate and member of the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena), Gerardo Fernández Noroña, has admitted that some of the candidates competing in June’s judicial elections do not comply with the constitutional requirement of “integrity”. Noroña said that such candidates should be withdrawn from the candidate list before elections take place on 1 June. His comments come as concerns have been rising surrounding the suitability of some of the candidates competing in the unprecedented elections, which will see the public directly elect some 881 judicial positions.
