*The British multinational oil firm Shell has ended its involvement in offshore gas projects in the Colombian Caribbean, according to Colombia’s state oil company Ecopetrol. In a statement, Ecopetrol said that
“Shell’s decision owes to reasons related to its strategy and the management of its global portfolio”. Shell has a joint venture with Ecopetrol in the gas blocks Col 5, Purple Angel, and Fuerte Sur, where it operates the Kronos-1, Purple Angel 1, Gorgon 1, Gorgon 2, and Glaucus 1 gas wells. Ecopetrol said that
“these projects, which are technically and economically viable, are a priority for Ecopetrol and the country, which is why we are evaluating the actions that must be taken to keep them operating and develop the resources that ensure gas supply in the medium term”. Ecopetrol emphasised that it
“continues to be partners” with Shell, noting that the two companies, along with France’s TotalEnergies, are working together on the Brazilian gas project Gato do Mato.
