The official campaign for Venezuela’s regional and congressional elections began on 29 April. The national electoral council (CNE), which, along with the legislature and judiciary, is tightly controlled by the government led by President Nicolás Maduro, called on all political parties to promote a “harmonious and constructive campaign, respectful of the law and regulations”. The elections are due on 25 May.
