Gov’t makes progress on trade in Asia tour. President Santiago Peña led a government delegation to Japan, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 19-27 May. In Japan and Singapore, the Paraguayan government made progress on efforts to boost agricultural exports to its Asian partners. On 22 May Japan’s ministry of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries announced that it will send personnel to Paraguay to inspect sanitary conditions and evaluate the potential authorisation of beef exports to Japan. According to the head of Paraguay’s national service for animal health and quality (Senacsa), José Carlos Martin, who also joined the Asia tour, Japan will confirm a date for the inspection within 30 days and it is expected to take place by the end of this year. On 23 May, when the delegation visited Singapore, Peña announced that Singapore has approved imports of Paraguayan beef, pork, and poultry. From 24-26 May Peña held meetings in the UAE with executives from Emirati transport and logistics firms, such as aviation company Terminals Holding and port operations company DP World. In addition to companies involved in trade infrastructure, Peña also met with executives from artificial intelligence development company G42, which has expressed interest in establishing data centres in Paraguay.
