The spokesperson for Bolivia’s supreme electoral court (TSE), Tahuichi Tahuichi Quispe, has emphatically ruled out the prospect of former president Evo Morales (2006-2019) competing in the 17 August general elections. Tahuichi’s comments on 26 May came amid protests by Morales’ supporters to demand that he be allowed to register as a candidate despite presidential term limits. Morales’ insistence on competing will pose serious problems for Eduardo del Castillo, the candidate for the ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS).
