*Brazil’s ministry of development, industry, trade, and services (MDIC) has released its trade figures for May, which showed a trade surplus of US$7.24bn. This latest monthly surplus marks a 12.8% decrease from May 2024. Exports in May this year totalled US$30.16bn, down 0.1% year-on-year, while the monthly import value stood at US$22.92bn, up 4.7%. Brazil’s agricultural export value for May was US$7.44bn, down 0.6% year-on-year, and exports for extractive industries totalled US$7.24bn, down 6.6%. Manufacturing exports stood at US$15.32bn, up 3.4% on the same month last year. Regarding export destinations, exports to Argentina totalled US$1.70bn (+67.4% year-on-year) and exports to the US came to US$3.61bn (+11.5%). Exports to China, Hong Kong, and Macau saw a yearly decrease of 0.5%, posting an export value of US$9.68bn.
