In brief: Chile’s social security head resigns amid scandal

*Chile’s labour ministry has announced that it has requested the resignation of Pamela Gana, the head of the social security superintendency (Suseso) amid a scandal over the misuse of medical leave by civil servants and public officials. The labour ministry said that Suseso prosecutor, Patricia Soto Altamirano, would take over the role. Gana has been questioned over Suseso’s role in the scandal, which saw over 25,000 officials travel outside the country while on medical leave between 2023 and 2024.
