*Honduras’ ruling Libertad y Refundación (Libre) has announced the immediate cancellation of social funds approved by congress, in line with an investigation currently underway into the social development ministry (Sedesol) over
the alleged use of Sedesol funds for political party activities. The announcement was made at a party summit on 4 July where Libre also revealed that it had requested the attorney general’s office and supreme audit tribunal (TSC) to intervene immediately in all ministries that executed the funds. It also confirmed the
suspension from the party of
Isis Cuéllar, a vice president of the country’s 128-member unicameral legislature who was implicated in the scandal, along with the now former head of Sedesol,
José Carlos Cardona, who quit on 27 June.
