Unity in the face of a common enemy

“The chainsaw is becoming ever more merciless and [President Javier] Milei’s authoritarianism is no longer just words but is becoming a very harsh reality.” With these words, the governor of Argentina’s most populous province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, explained how the Partido Justicialista (PJ, Peronists) was able to set aside its internal differences and agree upon the need for a unity list to contest both the provincial legislative elections on 7 September and the federal congressional mid-term elections on 26 October.
