A recent report published the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) supports the general view that China is now in the forefront of the global EV industry. The report says that China-based automakers “are building significant leads in the zero-emission (ZEV) vehicle market”. It says they have “leveraged their massive domestic market to build economies of scale and advance technologies”. Manufacturers such as Geely and SAIC met their target of taking EV production higher than 50% of their total annual output a year early. In contrast ICCT says, US and EU automakers face a double challenge to catch up technologically while navigating “increasingly uncertain regulatory environments”.
