In brief: Argentina’s economic activity down in monthly terms, up year-on-year

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released its latest estimate for economic activity (Emae), which showed a monthly decrease of 0.1% but a year-on-year increase of 5.0% in May. This latest monthly drop in activity comes after a 1.8% monthly increase was registered for April. In the first five months of 2025, the Emae has been erratic, with one month posting a monthly rise in activity followed by a month of decline. May is the third month of 2025 so far to post a monthly decrease. In year-on-year terms, economic activity was up every month from January-May, although this latest 5.0% yearly rise is the lowest increase so far this year. According to Indec’s latest report, the categories that registered significant year-on-year increases in activity included financial services (+25.8%) and fishing (+12.2%).
