*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has announced that it has assumed the functions of the national council for the evaluation of social development policy (Coneval), which was dissolved as part of a reform abolishing several autonomous bodies and regulatory agencies,
passed in November 2024. In a statement, Inegi said that it had taken on Coneval’s functions in terms of measuring poverty and evaluating social development policy as of 17 July, stating it would carry out its new duties
“with strict adherence to the principles of independence, objectivity, technical rigour, transparency, and replicability”. Inegi said its new information processes would be
