*Peru’s Economy and Finance Minister Raúl Pérez Reyes has filed a defamation claim after being implicated in possible corruption in relation to a contract for the Olmos irrigation project in Lambayeque region. Pérez Reyes posted a legal document on social media in which he made a formal complaint against Ranjiro Nakano, president of the board of the Olmos project, and Saúl Yabar, director of the Peruvian engineering firm Ingeniería, Asesoría y Gestión SAC (Iagesa). The complaint comes after a 20 July report by television news programme Panorama which played recordings of a conversation between Nakano and Yabar, in which they discussed having held two meetings with Pérez Reyes to discuss the direct adjudication of a contract to build a waterway.
